Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director to lead our Mosquito Abatement District in achieving its strategic goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in pest control, management, and strategic planning (IPM or IVM) with a proven ability to drive operational excellence. This role requires exceptional leadership skills and the ability to foster a collaborative environment while overseeing the planning, operations, and financial aspects of the District.
Duties
- Plans and directs the work of a moderate size staff of professional, technical and skilled employees engaged in the identification and elimination of breeding areas of mosquitoes in Ouachita Parish.
- Selects pesticides and application techniques for most effective control of mosquito population; evaluates effectiveness of program operations and implements changes as needed.
- Disseminates information to the general public through the various news media on health-related problems of mosquitoes and to motivate the general public to eliminate breeding areas and report public health hazards.
- Prepares budget recommendations for operation of program and submits to OPMAD Board of Commissioners and Ouachita Parish Police Jury for approval.
- Coordinates mosquito abatement program with appropriate governmental and local health and law enforcement agencies. Knowledgeable in applicable laws and regulatory codes governing pesticides and their application.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in or an attainment of a graduate degree in entomology, or equivalent of training and/or experience.
- Knowledge of the professional principles and practices of entomology.
- Knowledge of modern methods used in identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding areas.
- Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of a moderate group of personnel.
- Ability to analyze, develop and implement short and long-term goals for effective control of mosquitoes.
- Proven experience in a leadership role within the pest control, landscape, or agricultural sectors.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse teams and clients.
- Ability to drive operational strategies that enhance productivity and profitability.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on innovative solutions.
- Possession of a valid commercial pesticide applicator’s certification in categories 8a Aquatic Pest Treatment and 8d Mosquito Control Supervisor.
- A valid driver's license is required for travel between locations as needed.
