Insect Rearing Technician – Part Time

 

Summary:

Works on the technical aspects of insect farming, including maintaining equipment, monitoring environmental conditions, and ensuring the health and welfare of the insect population.

Responsibilities:

  • Set up food and equipment for use including blood feeding weekly, preparing food for larvae and sugar feeders for cages.
  • Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment and the insectary, including but not limited to mopping of floors, cleaning sinks and countertops, and removing trash.
  • Label cages and pans for inventory.
  • Make, organize and store solutions safely and properly according to safety instructions and SOPs.
  • Record all data and results (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility
  • Ensure that all safety guidelines are always followed strictly and maintain a clean and orderly environment.

Requirements:

  • Current Entomology, Biology, Chemistry or Life sciences student is ideal.
  • Must be comfortable in a lab setting.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Additional Details:

  • Flexible part time work schedule:
  • 25 hours per week
  • Monday – Wednesday (9:00 am – 2:00 pm)
  • Saturday – Sunday (9:00 am – 2:00 pm)
  • Growth opportunity potential (full-time).
