Pilot

Essential Functions:

    Operate helicopters and/or fixed wing aircraft to conduct larviciding and adulticiding spray missions, conduct inspections and transport District personnel and guests around Lee County

    Works closely with the Aviation Manager, Chief Pilot, Mosquito Control Biologist Ill and GIS Coordinator to plan for and execute aerial spray missions

    Conduct pre-flight inspections and report any mechanical issues to the Aircraft Maintenance team

    Generates post-mission map and post on server for GIS Coordinator

    Maintain a flight log during flight and documents all required information pursuant to the FAA regulations

    Ensures the safe flight operation of airplanes and helicopters being flown as Pilot in Command or Second in Command, in accordance with the LCMCD Standard Operating Procedure, applicable parts of FAA 14 CFR and the FAA Congested Area Plan

    Monitor weather conditions and adjusts mission plans as needed

    Record flight information and enters information into data base

    Responsible for wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

    Communicate with the public in a professional and courteous manner and refer all inquiries outside of area of expertise back to the appropriate person at the District

    Follow all Districts Safety policies and procedures and comply with all local, state and federal regulations at all times

    Responsible for ensuring all assigned equipment and tools are maintained and repaired as needed

    Other duties and projects as assigned


Qualifications:

    Must hold the valid medical certificate and pilot certificates as defined by the Federal Aviation Administration for the specific airplane or helicopter being flown

    Must hold the proper state license for aerial application

    Commercial Pilot's License Rotorcraft: Helicopter 1,000 hours total flight time, 750 hours Pilot In Command Flight Time

    Commercial Pilot Airplane: Multi-Engine Land with instrument rating, 200 hours total flight time, 25 hours Pilot in Command flight time

    Second Class Medical Certificate

    Must pass the CORE and Public Health exams within six months of hire and be able to maintain certification by earning appropriate CEU's (continuing education units)

    Must be able to work long hours and work nights and weekends as required

    Must have basic computer skills and have the ability to learn and operate internal programs including GIS systems and databases

    Must be able to read and understand chemical labeling instructions in English

    Must communicate effectively in English

    Must have a valid Florida Class E Drivers License with an acceptable driving record

Work Environment/Physical Requirements: The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical Requirements: Moderate physical activity is required on a regular basis including lifting, reaching for, pulling and carrying up to fifty pounds, reaching and pulling with arms, stooping, walking, standing, sitting for long periods of time and climbing in and out of airplanes, helicopters, vehicles and other equipment. Must be able to use hands and fingers to type, and grip and operate a variety of aircraft and other equipment. Excellent vision (in accordance with FAA Standards), both close and distance, is frequently required. 

Work Environment: The work environment varies but normally is a helicopter or airplane and airplane hangar but may include warehouses, office buildings, heliports and vehicles. Regular exposure to all types of weather is required when the position is required to work outside, exposed to sun, rain, mud, and insects. Travel is required, usually in a helicopter or airplane. Noise level is usually loud when flying in helicopters and airplanes but will be occasionally low when not around aircraft. Working with and around chemicals, which are stored, handled, applied/used and disposed of according to exact labeling instructions. Working around fuels, fumes, grease, oil and paint is required frequently.
