Dr Andrew Hammond is the co-founder and Head of R&D at Biocentis, a biotechnology company building sustainable solutions for genetic control of insect pest and vector species. Andrew was the first to develop gene drive technology to suppress popuations of the malaria mosquito, and has transformed the genetic toolbox for control of harmful arthropods. Alongside his roles at Biocentis and Johns Hopkins University, Andrew is a public speaker and key expert for the US, UK and EU on matters related to the ethics, regulation, and the future of genome engineering. He has won several important awards including 2020 Biochemical Society Biochemist of the Year Award and the Imperial College Presidents Award.
