Department of Defense's Armed Forces Pest Management Board (AFPMB) Grant Available

The Department of Defense's Armed Forces Pest Management Board (AFPMB) invites pre-proposals for innovative research addressing arthropod-borne pathogen diseases, such as Lyme disease, malaria, and dengue fever, as well as more efficient methods for controlling bed bugs and filth-breeding flies. The program seeks research that advances insecticides, application techniques, personal protection tools, decision support, and surveillance tools for military personnel. The desired outcome is to contribute to Advanced Technology Development, following DoD Financial Management Regulation Volume 2B, Chapter 5, DoD RDT&E Budget Activity 3. Research should focus on enhancing insecticides, personal protection against biting arthropods, and surveillance and pesticide application equipment for military operations.

We seek product-oriented research, including technology development, experimental product evaluation, and transitioning prototypes to commercial production. Projects should include semi-field or field evaluations of prototype products, excluding commercial product testing. Pesticide products resulting from this research should be positioned for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) registration. While the primary focus is military applicability, the resulting products should have civilian applications.

This program offers competitive grants to principal investigators from academia, industry, and local or state government agencies. Federal agencies, including the DoD, are eligible to apply, subject to existing regulations. This Call for Pre-Proposals aims to identify high-quality scientific solutions without specific funding reservations for particular demographics or organization types.
